Jed Cawthorne

Business Consultant

Jed has over two decades of varied IT experience gained since joining the United Kingdom military in the early 1980s. More recently, Jed has developed general IT management, project and programme management skills and experience using them primarily in an information management context within the public sector.

Jed joins Prescient from The Open University, the UK’s premier distance learning educational provider with over 250,000 students and 11,000 staff. He led a broad scoped four-year, multi-million dollar Enterprise Content Management initiative, including redevelopment of the Intranet and development of an Enterprise Search strategy. He has experience in managing large scale procurements and undertaking vendor selection exercises.

Prior to the Enterprise Content Management work, Jed was involved with the European Space Agency Mars Express mission as the 'Science Data Archiving Manager' for the Beagle 2 Mars Lander, building a NASA Planetary Data System compliant archive and supporting information systems. Prior to that, Jed worked for a UK government agency and the Royal Navy.

Jed has frequently spoken on Information Lifecycle Management, ECM and collaboration at Butler Group, Ark Group and Unicom Conferences in the UK, EMC events in Europe and the US and most recently, on the Open University’s intranet project at CMF07 in Denmark. Jed’s wider interests include 'Enterprise 2.0' and information security.

Jed holds a Bachelor of Science in Computing from the Open University and an MBA from the Open University Business School. He is a professional member of AIIM (the ECM Association) and holds the AIIM designation of ECM Practitioner, Information Organisation & Access Practitioner and Business Process Management Specialist. Jed is also a professional member of CM Pros and a Chartered IT Professional with the British Computer Society.
